Sameeksha Mehra is an Indian artist living and working in Stockholm, Sweden.
Sameeksha’s practice is deeply steeped in her Indian culture and traditions. Her work draws from the surroundings she grew up in and therefore has found a rich source of inspiration in the local craft heritage of India. Sameeksha completed her master in Crafts in 2019, and the Research Lab in 2021, both from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, Sweden.
Sameeksha works with traditional crafts of India, which are at the risk of extinction due to market pressures and industrialisation. She regularly collaborates with Indian craftsmen to create pieces that identify with age-old traditions and are yet relevant in the contemporary milieu. Her current project, which is sampled here, incorporates the traditional craft of lacquer into daily forms. These forms highlight lacquer’s versatility and its beauty. This project with the Research Lab Group has recently been exhibited at the China Pavilion in Drottningholm, Stockholm.
