Madeleine Hatz Swedish, b. 1952
Madeleine Hatz’s artistic practice has both a poetic and philosophical character, encompassing a wide range of fields including painting, performance, text, and video.
For three decades, she has maintained studios in both New York and Sweden, and has worked internationally in various countries, most recently in China. In her art, she displays a warm familiarity with the classical painting tradition. At the same time, her practice is marked by bold and radical political activism.
"Madeleine Hatz’s artistic practice is characterized by thoughtful personal positions on the relationship between political/spatial situation – work – artist – viewer, as well as its art theoretical and philosophical references. There is a presence in, and awareness of, our contemporary world, with a strong ethical ethos." (Viveca Wessel)
SWEDISH.
(Viveca Wessel)
