Tova Schaeffer Swedish, b. 1996

Overview

In my artistic practice, I explore contrasts: hard and soft, straight and crooked, the organic yet sterile.

I transfer old sketches and illustrations to ceramics, deconstructing my world of patterns and bringing them to life in clay – like a canvas for me to decorate. Inspired by the sea and nature, forms become patterns and, in turn, ceramic objects.

The material is ceramics, and a recurring theme is contrasts. Ceramics are hard and cold, but my form, expression, and decoration are alive and organic. I want to invite guests to a pattern party where my ceramic objects serve as the centerpiece of the celebration.
