Ameeba, Hanging organisms, 2024 Freeblown and hot sculpted.
These objects make one wonder, what are they? Where did they come from? Having such a delicate and fluid shape they appear quite romantic but still something in them whispers about vulgarity.
This series comes a long way with me but as with many ideas, I needed to let it live in me before actually making it. I often use the organic, you could say natural shapes in my art but actually it is quite un natural for glass.Glass wants to be round and by manipulating the mass and deforming it you will get the most beautiful flowy result. This makes the process harder and as glass always requires all of the focus to itself, now you have to give 110% of it.
I find the contrast of the making process and the finished piece very interesting and it’s seen in this series too. In spite of the light appearance of the pieces the process itself is quite violent. To make the open sections one has to pierce a hole through the glowing mass of glass. Its a dance between hot and cold, still and fluid. And determination. It is a challenge where the glass wants to be one thing and I as a sculptor bend it to be something else.
The finished art piece is light and fragile. It’s floating and hanging around, looking like it is dripping from something. Who knows, maybe they’ll transform you to another universe if you get too close..
