These bows represent a functional necessity transformed into a decorative motif. Before the advent of elastic materials, both men and women had to tie their undergarments. A relic of bygone eras, these bows are sourced from panties and bras, voluntarily sent to the artist by their wearers, becoming inadvertent artefacts of femininity or, perhaps, serving as decorative accents akin to the gift wrapping on a present.
The artist has deliberately mounted the ribbons in a stark, brutalist fashion, securing them onto a steel plate with straight pins, reminiscent of a meticulously curated collection of butterflies or insects.
Each smaller framed artwork showcases a ribbon, bearing the name of its original wearer.
