Joanne Grüne-Yanoff's first short film, The Cassandra Cycle: Memory was completed in February 2023. It was quickly chosen to be presented at the Västerås festival, with the film accompanied by the Västerås symphony. It has recently also been selected by Bridge Film Festival and Festival del Cinema di Cefalù.
In her work, Grüne-Yanoff examines the individual's charged relationship with the outside world. She does so through a character, Cassandra, who has inhabited her work for more than a decade. Cassandra is a grounded being who watches the skies, thinking about transformation, and flight.
The film opens as Cassandra, in her eggshell crown and jumpsuit, searches for connection with Blitz as they confront conflicting desires. Shot in the Swedish countryside with an all woman cast and crew that includes collaborator Ingrid André, this 5 minute film glimpses a world as surreal as it is universal.
