Lotta Döbling explores existence and the impressions we encounter through her images. She starts from photographs and draws inspiration from art history, popular culture, and peripheral details of everyday life. Her work is fragmentary, like glimpses in a flow of impressions. It is intuitive, where surfaces meet muted undertones. In her close-ups and cropped views of figures, environments, and objects, the original meaning fades, allowing a new painterly narrative to emerge. At the center is a quest within painting, where colour both entices and confounds, offering resistance and following its own path in the process.
Lotta Döbling studied at Konstfack and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, where she still lives and works. She exhibits actively throughout Sweden, is represented in several public collections, and has received numerous prestigious grants.
